Our Process
Vortex Insulation was born out of a desire to give you the home team advantage and help you win the fight.
Choosing the proper insulation methods can be confusing even for some contractors, so we created a simple system. Once we understand your goals, our free evaluation is the most effective way to identify what needs to be done at your home. We will be able to determine the next steps and which insulation techniques can be employed to achieve the desired results.
Spray Foam Insulation
Spray foam insulation for homes has grown in popularity as most homeowners consider reducing their energy consumption. Additionally, new California laws made spray foam insulation mandatory in some homes.
Spray foam insulation conforms to the space it is placed in, creating a very effective energy seal with the wall or roof surface. This type of insulation needs a license since it’s almost a scientific art form. A qualified team from a licensed and insured business must professionally install it to ensure spray foam insulation is applied safely and correctly.
Vortex’s selected spray foam has passed specific tests that make it safe for the environment and meets California state requirements. It is essential to us that you are comfortable in your home.

Batt Insulation
Batt insulation (also known as blanket insulation) is made of fiberglass, mineral wool, plastic fibers, or natural fibers, which are pre-cut into flat pieces. It is typically fitted between your home’s studs, rafters, and joists and can insulate unfinished walls, floors, attics, and ceilings. Batt remains effective over time because it does not settle and can help with sound dampening.
Batt insulation can have a relatively short life, though, compared to spray foam, it has an average lifetime of 12 years. , it starts to lose its effectiveness.

*Batt is very flexible, so it can fit into the framing to reduce heat transfer and help reduce energy bills.
Rigid Board Insulation
Rigid board insulation is a continuous layer applied to the roof and walls. It is a robust insulation method and doesn’t shift out of place after installation. It resists water and pests, which is why it is commonly used in crawlspaces and basements. Additionally, it functions as an air barrier and is very versatile. You can easily cut and glue it to fit into areas that have unusual shapes. Some foam is also placed under basement slabs to lower heat loss via the concrete.
*Pro tip: Insulating underneath the house significantly impacts air quality and temperature control. 80% of homeowners usually miss this step due to a lack of knowledge.

Blow In Insulation
Cellulose insulation has been a tried and true insulating method in homes for decades. It is made from recycled wood-based material and is a fire retardant, 1-hour fire rating, making it an environmentally friendly alternative.
Loose fill insulation is blown to add depth to areas such as attics where the existing insulation is insufficient. It also stands up against insects and vermin because it is treated with borates. However, this option can become a home for rodents, so if you have issues with rodents, there might be better choices for you.

Old Insulation Removal
When upgrading your current insulation, it is recommended by professionals to do an insulation removal first because of possible mildew, mold, or rodent excrement. After a while, the materials used to insulate your home can lose effectiveness. From everyday wear and tear to more severe issues like vermin and contamination. If you notice floor studs showing, your home needs more insulation, even if the existing old insulation still has some R-value left.
Drill and Fill
Do you need insulation but have no plans to remodel? We can help with that; Vortex has a process where we drill a hole in the wall and blow insulation between the walls. Once they are filled with insulation up to our standards, the holes get patched up, and you are ready to enjoy the comfort!
